My blog has gained a surprising number of new subscribers and followers in the past couple of weeks (the surprising part being that my mom isn’t the only one reading it anymore). So thanks for subscribing and for sharing and pinning my posts! For you new wonderful followers, I’m Haley. Lovely to meet you. I’m a Catholic convert living in the bright, sunny, South. Things I love include … [Read more...]
This Week’s Miscellany: Vol. 5
Coming Up in the Liturgical Year: Candlemas, February 2nd! Get yo' candles blessed! Check out last year's Feast. Listening: Gotye. You can listen to his new album Making Mirrors on NPR First Listen Quote: "I do not want to be in a religion in which I am allowed to have a crucifix. I feel the same about the much more controversial question of the honor paid to the blessed Virgin. If … [Read more...]
This Week’s Miscellany: Vol. 4
Coming up in the Liturgical Year: Feast of the Epiphany this Friday! Planning to say goodbye to Christmastide by putting away the Christmas ornaments with Benjamin and giving the Nativity scene one last hurrah by telling the story of the Wise Men one last time before putting it away. And Daniel will probably read T. S. Eliot's "Journey of the Magi" aloud for us. Listening: I finally … [Read more...]
This Week’s Miscellany, Vol. 3
Whew. We've all had colds that got better and then came back since the week before Thanksgiving. (And by all I mean OUR ENTIRE EXTENDED FAMILY.) The saga resulted in some serious sleep deprivation (I don't sleep well when I'm sick, add one sick little asthmatic boy who wakes up wheezing and coughing, and then add one sick little tiny newborn baby sniffling and needing to nurse all night) which … [Read more...]
This Week’s Miscellany, Vol. 2
Coming Up in the Liturgical Year: ADVENT! Yesterday marked the new liturgical year and first day of Advent. It was also the first day we used the new English translation of the Mass. I'll do a post about our Advent preparations soon with some good links for Advent resources. This picture is from last year. Benjamin looks so much smaller than he does now! Listening to: My dear friend … [Read more...]
This Week’s Miscellany, Vol. 1
Coming up in the Liturgical Year: Tuesday is St. Cecelia's Day and also the anniversary of Benjamin's Baptism! We're going to light his baptismal candle and we'll probably read Water, Come Down!: The Day You Were Baptized. Listening to: Florence and the Machine: Ceremonials I can't stop listening to "Shake It Out." And her hair...I can't wait til Elizabeth Joy is … [Read more...]
All About Lucy
I started this post over a week ago and just now am finding time to finish it! Babies! Look at this beautiful lady: Amazingly, all three children at our house are napping simultaneously! "Three?" you may ask. Lois and I are watching sweet little Jonah Atkins while his mama goes back to work for the next couple of months. Here's a less than wonderful photo of the boys, AKA … [Read more...]
Lucy is HERE!
Just a note to say that Lucy arrived this morning at 4:49 am, beautiful and healthy. Praise God from whom all blessings flow! … [Read more...]
Early Labor?
Just a quick update to say that it appears I'm in early labor. Contractions have been 10+ minutes apart for about 24 hours. I wish they would get closer together but they definitely have strengthened significantly. We're going to try to get some sleep and if they get to be 5 minutes apart, then we'll head to the hospital. We'd love your prayers for safety, stamina, and an easy delivery! Please … [Read more...]
Poor Benjamin
Well, Benjamin has Hands, Foot, and Mouth. As I said in my last update, sweet Benjamin has been quarantined away from me at Marmee's because even though he didn't have symptoms, he would have been contagious if he'd picked it up from the kids we played with this weekend. Last night he complained to Marmee that his mouth hurt and today he woke up from his nap with a fever. Marmee took him to the … [Read more...]
