This is Part Two. If you missed Part One you can read it here. By the time we got to the hospital I was 7 cm and labor was intense. Daniel and I wanted to use the Bradley Method of husband-coached natural childbirth (no drugs). Christy, our midwife, suggested that Daniel and I walk around the halls to keep things progressing. During the next few hours my contractions intensified until they … [Read more...]
Benjamin’s Birth Story: Part One
In two weeks Benjamin will turn two-years-old! He loves to tell everyone that his birthday is “Febu-rary 8th!” This impending milestone and a friend’s birthing story I recently read have inspired me to edit the notes I jotted down about his birth and turn them into a real birthing story. If you’re not interested in the gory details of birth…this story isn’t for you. Go do something … [Read more...]

The Year of Change
So much has changed in a year. I went from being mama to a baby with chubby wrists... to mothering a bonafide toddler that plays silly games with the cabinets... and helps pick out the Christmas tree... A year ago he had just begun walking. Now he runs, scales furniture, climbs on playgrounds, and hikes nature trails with Daddy. He was just beginning to connect sounds to … [Read more...]
Thanksgiving
We have a lot to be thankful for. Including family and friends at our table, November in Florida when you can still eat outside and not freeze, good food, work, and home. And especially this sweet smile: Still as sweet as on his first Thanksgiving: I don't take our little one for granted and I'm grateful for each day I get to spend as his mother. … [Read more...]
Potty Training?
Can some other mamas help me out with the next step of potty training? If potty training doesn't interest you, don't bother reading this. So we've started potty training Little Bear, or rather, he's decided he wants to start potty training. I was going to wait til he turned two, but he just really wants to use the potty. A couple weeks ago he started wanting to sit on the potty before … [Read more...]
A Tale of Woe and Vomiting
Whilst we were enjoying a shepherd's pie at our house tonight with friends Jeni and her precious baby Jax, Benjamin suddenly lost it. Just fell apart in completely uncharacteristic wails. He was inconsolable and unable to vocalize what the problem was (quite unusual since he talks nonstop all day, every day). I decided to take his temperature just to be safe and sure enough, 102. Even stranger, he … [Read more...]
Summertime Comes to an End
I can feel Fall in the air, even through the 90 degree heat. The mornings are cooler and the humidity is decreasing. Maybe it's all in my head, but it feels different. I'm looking forward to spending more time outside with Little Bear once the mosquitos go away. Speaking of which, we're in the market for a new jogging stroller. Any suggestions? We're still taking advantage of summer while we … [Read more...]
Two Suggestions
1. Katherine sent me the link to this great article by Jessica Snell in Touchstone: The Feast Goes On "As with the food I prepare, all the traditions of the church year turn the ordinary work of my vocation into a daily reminder of the gospel. The life of a stay-at-home mother is derided by many as repetitive and boring, but what those critics do not realize is that the repetition is not rote, … [Read more...]
Hello, again
Since my last post in April: We moved across the country from beloved Texas to beloved North Florida where both of our families live. I started grad school in Art History, with a concentration in medieval art and got to take a class on medieval barbarian art, Vikings, Anglo-Saxons, Picts, Celts. Lovely. We bought a wonderful little house built in the ‘40s with wood floors, a … [Read more...]
