Yesterday afternoon at 2pm, Benjamin Daniel was baptized at our parish church. We are thankful for the presence of family and friends that witnessed this special day with us. He is to walk always as a child of the light. … [Read more...]
Our House, Part V: Benjamin’s Cabinet
This is Benjamin's Cabinet. When we're cooking he will climb into his cabinet that houses his cracked blue colander that he likes to wear as a hat or sit on. After 10 seconds of silence he'll say, "Where's Benjamin?!" and then pop out and laugh uproariously. His fat little tummy just kills me. Here he is playing a little ditty on the penny whistle. It makes the most dreadful sounds but … [Read more...]
Soul Cakes for All Saints’
November 1st is All Saints' Day when we honor and remember the faithful saints and martyrs through out the centuries, known and unknown. The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us, "Exactly as Christian communion among our fellow pilgrims brings us closer to Christ, so our communion with the saints joins us to Christ" (957). Also known as Hallowmas, All Saints' Day marks the middle of … [Read more...]
Potty Training?
Can some other mamas help me out with the next step of potty training? If potty training doesn't interest you, don't bother reading this. So we've started potty training Little Bear, or rather, he's decided he wants to start potty training. I was going to wait til he turned two, but he just really wants to use the potty. A couple weeks ago he started wanting to sit on the potty before … [Read more...]
Farm Tour
Benjamin's Uncle Garrett and I took him to the Farm Tour this weekend to see Orchard Pond Organics where we have our CSA share. Look at how beautiful these chickens are! We eat their eggs so I'm glad to know that they're such good looking creatures. They have a pretty awesome chicken tractor, too. There were some good lookin' cows in this field (behind Garrett and Little Bear) … [Read more...]
My Sweet Little Bear and Autumnal Fun
We took a trip to the Pumpkin Patch with my mom and her goddaughter, Maddy. Benjamin was quite thrilled to be carted around by Maddy. He picked out this knobbliest of pumpkins. I don't know why it looks like he has dirt on his nose. A few new things: Bear has started sleeping later. (Praise the Lord!) For the first year he wouldn't sleep later than 5:30 and for the past six months he's … [Read more...]

“See ya later, Mom,”

Some September Highlights…
Benjamin and I have been trying to spend lots of time outside now that the weather is not as hot, the humidity is lower, and the mosquitos have mostly disappeared. I'm a bundle of anxiety about mosquito-borne illnesses since we've had a couple of deaths from encephalitis in the area this summer and lathering Benjamin up with Burt's Bee's bug repellant gives him a weird herbal smell all day that … [Read more...]
Our House, Part III: The Vegetable Garden
While choosing a house, one of our main concerns was having enough yard space for a large vegetable garden. Growing our own food has become really important to us over the past three years and it is so fun to watch Little Bear be excited about the garden. Daniel planted some okra, peppers, eggplant, and tomatoes right next to the house as a start and then added 8 raised beds. … [Read more...]
