It’s Holy Week and I’m not ready for it. It’s been a busy Lent. It started out focused, but then life showed up. Did that happen to you, too? With our house on the market, trying to keep everything clean while homeschooling and raising three little ones is driving me crazy. Daniel was really busy at work and was out of town some for his second gig as a youth group leader. My lenten food … [Read more...]
Getting the Eastertide Party Going {Sponsored Post}
When I was chatting with Christy and Bonnie on the Fountains of Carrots podcast recently, I realized that while we have some set traditions for observing Lent in our home, we haven't developed as much for celebrating Eastertide (50 days!) after Easter Sunday comes to an end. But we're slowly and surely adding in some solid Easter traditions in our home, so I thought I'd share. Kick it Off! One … [Read more...]
8 Picture Books for Lent and Easter
I'm usually on the ball with having great picture books to read during Advent, but this is the first year I've intentionally sought out Lent and Easter reads for the kids. So head on over to your local library and check 'em out! 1. Tomie dePaola's Book of Bible Stories Lent is a great time to read passages about the life of Jesus. We usually read a bit of the New Testament section of this … [Read more...]
Liturgical Living At a Glance: April
I’m always trying to figure out how to make it easier for families to observe the Christian Year because we felt so overwhelmed when we first started that journey (which is why we wrote the book we wish we had then). I thought it might be helpful for our family to have resources compiled for the month ahead so that we can plan in advance which special saints days we want to observe and I hope … [Read more...]
More Than Chocolate Bunnies: Simple and Fun Kids’ Easter Basket Fillers (And Easter Egg Votives Giveaway!)
Ever since we began observing the liturgical year, we do it up big for Easter. After the 40 days of Lent, it’s time for the biggest party of the year in celebration of the Resurrection! We try to find ways to help our kids understand the Christian Year and having simple meals during Lent and then really celebrating with food and gifts for Easter helps them learn to participate in those seasons. I … [Read more...]
Easter 2012
And I'm back after the Holy Week silence! Happy Eastertide! We had so much to celebrate this Easter: the Resurrection of Our Lord, my older brother's confirmation, Lucy's first Easter, dear family and friends. This is Lucy's sweet Easter dress: The Easter Vigil was three hours long and the little lamb slept through almost all of it. Is it just me or is she looking more gingery? I would love … [Read more...]
It’s Holy Week…
...hence the blogging silence. Until Easter, this will have to suffice, dear folk: Daniel and our friend Ted butchered a pig on Monday night. Moral of the story: we will be eating ham on Easter Sunday. My brother will be confirmed in the Catholic Church and receive his first communion on Saturday night. So excited for him! I found out I'm probably allergic to dairy. Blerg. Almond milk … [Read more...]
Our Year in Pictures: 2011!
I think Daniel and I both agree that 2011 was our best year to date. Here’s some highlights (which turned out to become a monstrously long post with mostly pregnancy pics, oh well). January Daniel got a new job and we hoped to get pregnant again. Benjamin continued to amaze us with the joy he brought to our world. February In February we celebrated Benjamin's 2nd Birthday … [Read more...]
Easter!
Benjamin was thrilled with his first Easter Egg Hunt. However, he was often distracted by the treats inside and took a break to eat the contents before going on to the next egg. We were shocked to discover that he was not a bit freaked out by the youth wearing an Easter Bunny costume. Benjamin is usually very wary of such things but he ran over to him and jumped in his lap. Maybe I … [Read more...]
Kohlrabi Cuteness
Can you even handle this? How bout this silly smile? I love this blog post about natural dyes for Easter eggs at Boulder Locavore. I think we might dye eggs on Saturday so that they can soak in the dye overnight and be ready to display Sunday. We've already got red cabbage and turmeric. We don't have spinach but we've got plenty of greens in the garden so we might just try … [Read more...]
