Every so often, we chat fashion at Carrots. I hope it feels like going shopping with a friend, but not having to try on jeans….or leave your couch.
So here’s the drill. I share a new box of Stitch Fix items, tell ya my thoughts, get my husband Daniel’s take (which is really the only reason you’re reading this, right?), and share what I kept and what I sent back.
(I’m not gonna go into the details of the personal styling service Stitch Fix in this post, but if you want to know more you can check out my posts about whether Stitch Fix is worth it, how it compares to other styling services like Golden Tote. Here’s the basics: five items chosen just for you by your stylist arrive in a box to your doorstep. You try ‘em on and send back what you don’t want.)
I got a new stylist for this fix (I had been a little disappointed with my last two fixes, they just weren’t working for me) and as you can see, Daniel couldn’t WAIT to see what my new stylist came up with! He could barely contain his excitement!
But before we get into my most recent fix, a reader shared this FB post from the Archdiocese of San Antonio:
“In an effort to expand their philanthropic impact, StitchFix, an online subscription and personal shopping service based in San Francisco, reached out to Seton Home, inquiring if the organization would be interested in receiving new and unused inventory donations. Since 1981, Seton Home has been a residence for girls ages 12-17 who, in most cases, have been removed from their homes by Child Protective Services due to abuse, neglect or sexual assault, and are also pregnant and/or parenting a child. StitchFix Social Impact Director Annika Dubrall introduced her organization’s commitment to inspire clients and employees to be their best selves, and how they wanted to share that same philosophy with Seton Home’s clients to help have a positive impact on the community in which they work and live. Given the nature from which Seton Home’s clients come, having suffered from trauma and abuse, it was determined by StitchFix that brand new boutique-style clothes could have a positive impact on the residents’ self-esteem and image. Days later, a shipment of 100 pieces — dresses, tops, pants, and maternity sizes — was shipped directly Seton Home.”
How cool is that?! I love that they are blessing these brave young women. Yet another reason to love SF!
Top: Stitch Fix, , Jeans: can’t remember, Shoes: Target
Item #1: Jada Tunic by THML. I absolutely loved this top. Because it’s white and probably wouldn’t survive long in my house with three little kids and because the price point was just a LEETLE too high for me, I sent it back. But I think it’s gorgeous.
I really love the embroidery and the length.
Daniel’s Take: “A tunic! It’s a tunic, right? Like a cool mom would wear in the 60s.”
Top: Stitch Fix, Skirt: Stitch Fix: Shoes: Lucky Brand
Items #2 and #3: Keera Off-The-Shoulder Knit Top by Pixley and Triste Swing Skirt by Pixley. Cute skirt and cute top. The top was a teensy bit too snug and I didn’t want to deal with strapless bras and then although I did like the skirt, I already have a black skirt and really need a different color. Didn’t specify that for my stylist, so she didn’t know!
I really like the waist on the skirt, though!
Daniel’s Take: “This is like a cool 50s mom! Is there a theme?”
Dress: Stitch Fix, Shoes: Lucky Brand
Item #4: Darlena Lace Dress by London Times from Stitch Fix. I love it! But I actually already have a similar dress EXACTLY this color.
See?
It seems ridiculous to have two dresses that are basically exactly the same.
Daniel:”The pattern and color reminds me of a peacock. This could be a Flannery O’Connor dress.”
Back you go, lovely peacock dress!
Top and Pants Stitch Fix, Shoes: Soda from Thred Up, Glasses: Firmoo
Item #5: Lonni Crochet Back Knit Tank by Papermoon. A keeper! I love the length of this top and the little bit of crochet detail.
The back is super cute, too and still looks good with a camisole underneath.
Daniel’s Take: “This is your summer 2016 shirt, isn’t it?”
It so is. I keep wearing it until it’s all sweaty and smelly and then washing it and wearing it again.
So I only kept one because the budget is tight these days as we’re closing on our house soon, eek! But if money were no object, I would have kept everything but the black top. So well done, Stitch Fix!
And if you’re still in the market for a Mother’s Day gift, a Stitch Fix gift card is a fabulous idea!
Until next time, and Happy Friday, friends!

Excellent self control on saying no to that tunic and the blue dress!! Those looked especially stunning on you, but you’re so right, who really needs two dresses that are basically exactly the same?! I’m glad the new stylist hit it out of the park 🙂 AND thank you for the excellent idea with a Stitch Fix gift card, my mom will love that!
Haley says
Oh good! And yes, my new stylist is fantastic! I’m excited to see what she sends next 🙂
Katie @ The Catholic Wife says
WOW. That tunic was absolutely precious and totally in your color wheel. Good call on returning for the price, though. It’s hard to feel beautiful in anything knit with guilt.
Every SF post intrigues me! I’ll have to get around to giving it a shot.
Haley says
It would totally have been a guilt top, haha! But I’m second guessing myself after looking at the pictures of it. Such a pretty piece.
Grace says
Don’t feel too bad! It was cute but too big under the arms.
Erika says
I loooove that tunic on you!! And everything else too haha…what a great fix. The black top/skirt are awesome but I’m with you on the strapless bra thing.
Haley says
It was an extra good fix! But yes, just can’t deal with strapless bras. Cannot. Deal.
Rosie says
Love that last top! I would have kept it, too 🙂 So pretty!
Haley says
Thanks, Rosie!
AnneMarie says
Wow, you have stellar self-control for not keeping the tunic (though having something white like that is a bit more impractical). I also REALLY love the blue lace dress and think it looks super cute on you, but you’re right-don’t need two of the same dress! And that’s super awesome news about SF and Seton Home!!
Haley says
Isn’t that awesome about the Seton Home? I just loved hearing about that.
Kristy says
I love that tunic too!
I also have a local friend who was sent a gift from Stitch Fix when they learned her husband had been in a horrible accident. They seem to be a very generous company.
Haley says
Oh wow, that is so cool that they did that. I keep discovering more reasons to love them.
Christina says
You are too good- if all those clothes looked THAT good on me, I’d have a hard time returning them! 😉
Haley says
You’re too sweet, Christina!
Erin says
As always Daniel’s comments are what I love best about these posts, such man comments!
Haley says
Ha!
Kristen says
I got that black and white skirt in my last box too! I also only kept one navy blue top, though it wasn’t the same as yours. (I’ve only commented a time or two, but your blog is my favorite. Hi!)
Haley says
Aw, thanks so much, Kristen!
Caroline says
Your Stich Fix blogs are my favorite- especially Daniel’s red carpet (or should I say green grass) observations and comments.
Haley says
Haha! He’s somethin’ else. 😉
Becky says
Super cute blue dress! But yeah, I’m the same way with having things in too similar of a style/color. Gotta mix it up, right? 🙂
Haley says
Exactly! <3
Heather Buzby says
Ok I did it. You convinced me to try Stitch Fix. I’m nervous! I’m not the most fashionable or adventurous person…but I don’t like or have time to go shopping so I’m giving it a shot! Eek!
Haley says
I hate shopping, too! Well…maybe it would be fun if I had time and could go by myself and slowly peruse the racks, but with three kids in tow? No way!
I’m excited for you! Just fill out everything very thoroughly in the style profile so that your stylist will understand just what you like 😉
