Every so often, we chat fashion at Carrots. I hope it feels like going shopping with a friend, but not having to try on jeans….or leave your couch.
So here’s the drill. I share a new box of Stitch Fix items, tell ya my thoughts, get my husband Daniel’s take (which is really the only reason you’re reading this, right?), and share what I kept and what I sent back.
(I’m not gonna go into the details of the personal styling service Stitch Fix in this post, but if you want to know more you can check out my posts about whether Stitch Fix is worth it, how it compares to other styling services like Golden Tote. Here’s the basics: five items chosen just for you by your stylist arrive in a box to your doorstep. You try ‘em on and send back what you don’t want.)
Ok so last time I mentioned that I thought it was time to switch up stylists because that fix just really missed the mark for me. Well…I should have requested a new stylist but I thought I would wait JUST ONE MORE FIX to see if things turned around. They didn’t.
(But afterwards I switched up stylists and just got my latest fix a couple of days ago and LOVED it, so pics from the new stylist at a blog near you soon.) But first, the good news is that you get to see some pretty epicly unflattering pieces! Ta da!
If you want high quality photos, just ask your trusty photographer/husband/farmer to take a few right before he goes to feed some animals. He will LOVE taking a creative break from his manly chores.
Top: Stitch Fix, , Leggings: Stitch Fix, Shoes: Lucky Brand, Glasses: c/o Firmoo
Item #1: Odelai Runic from Fun2Fun. Ok, so I did ask for a tunic length top. But I was thinking something young and fun to wear with leggings. Not this. It isn’t awful by any means, but nope.
Eh. I’m just not gonna wear this. Sent it straight back. Those leggings I got a few fixes ago though….I wear at least twice a week. Because of the elastic-y waist that holds in all of the extra skin left over from three pregnancies. #win.
Daniel’s Take: “This would be ok to wear if you had purchased it on a trip to another country.“
But hold up. It’s gonna get worse before it gets better.
Top: Stitch Fix, Leggings: Stitch Fix
Item #2: Hanley V-Neck Tunic by Rose De Paris. I’m smiling because I was laughing so hard. I would be blending into the background except this tent tunic is ginormous! Do they not make sleeves long enough for human arms? Why does this keep happening? Remind me to never wear this color again.
I’ll let that image speak for itself. I think the little things on the ends of the sleeves are what get me the most.
What would you even call those? Embroidery Bells? Yarn Orbs?
Daniel’s Take: “I know you never watched the Drew Carey Show and you don’t remember the character Mimi but this is a dress she would wear.”
And I can’t decide if this next one is better or worse than the last…
Dress: Stitch Fix, Shoes: Target
Item #3: Shaolin Crepe Cold Shoulder Dress by Skies are Blue. My eyes are saying, please make this stop.
At first I thought, well, if only the detailing on the sides that makes it look like you have two extra hips would disappear, this dress would be ok. But then there’s the sleeves and the shape and the….just no. I kind of like the cold shoulder thing going on but that is IT.
At least my hair looks good. (And again, why are the sleeves such a weird length?!)
Daniel:”This is like a fashion major’s final project that earned her a C-.”
Back you go.
Top and Jeans: Stitch Fix, Shoes: Lucky Brand
Item #4: Loveappella Rainie Contrast Trim Knit Top Stitch Fix. Finally! Ok, so these were taken this morning rather than the other day when the other ones were taken. Why? I don’t remember exactly why we didn’t take pics of the two items I was actually KEEPING when we took the other ones. But we took them this morning. When it was raining. And suddenly frigid. That’s how dedicated I was to making this post happen for you today.
I have been wearing this shirt almost everyday. I wear it with jeans or with leggings since it covers one’s entire bum. This is the tunic I’ve been looking for!
Daniel’s Take: “I appreciate that contemporary fashion is trying to incorporate space exploration themes.”
And it was seriously so cold that I couldn’t handle changing shirts to give you a new look for these jeans that I also kept from this fix. But I promise. They’re cute jeans.
Top: Stitch Fix, Jeans: Stitch Fix
Item #5: Madelyn Released Hem Skinny Jean by Just Black from Stitch Fix. Now THAT’S what I’m talking about. These jeans have just enough fun without being over the top. I don’t know how Stitch Fix always sends me pants that fit so well, but I am a fan of their jean wizardry because nothing is worse than shopping for jeans, amirite?!
Here’s the jeans with an outfit from my last fix:
JEANS!
Daniel’s Take: “I don’t know what to say about jeans. There are no sequins or large holes so…good?”
And there we have it folks. Kept two items, send the rest back to the pit of despair from whence they came.
Stay tuned for the next fix because it’s way cuter, I promise 😉
And PS! Stitch Fix just started carrying shoes. I haven’t tried out their shoes yet, but I’m planning on it next time.

I’d call them tassles… You should have gone for it. They’re totally biblical! (See numbers 15:39) (totally just kidding though! Send it back!) 😀
Kate says
Sara, I laughed out loud when I read your comment, and then I looked at the scripture and laughed some more! “And it shall be unto you for a fringe…”
Haley, I know this post is old, but I’ve had yet another disappointing fix and I went to the internet for consolation. Thank you! My first fix was amazing, but the rest…
Colleen says
I actually like the tunic with the yarn thingies on the sleeves!
Kathryn says
Pom poms
Michele says
Such cute jeans! And I LOVE your longer hair!
AnneMarie says
I agree that #3 was definitely a major fail haha. I actually love #1 though! I think it only works if that’s your kind of taste in clothing, so it’s probably a good thing you sent it back-plus, now the people who have weird fashion senses like me can enjoy those kinds of pieces 😉
Melissa H-K says
Oh, Daniel. You have such a wonderful career waiting for you in fashion commentary. All of us who don’t enjoy fashion would just ***love*** your takes on it.
Cecilia says
Haley, I just had a really awful fix, and while I was modeling it for my roommate last Saturday, I was telling her about your posts with Daniel’s comments and how I was hoping to see another SF post from you soon. And lo and behold, you provide just what I needed!
And I love top #4; it’s adorable.
Susanna says
“space exploration themes”–lol. Thank you, Daniel.
Rita @ Open Window says
Well…at least your hair looks good. That Mimi comment made me laugh.
Emily Cihlar says
Mimi. Oh my gosh, I am dying. Daniel doesn’t disappoint yet again.
Erin says
Please don’t take pics against the aluminum wall anymore…I love these posts but those pics hurt my eyes. Pretty Please!
Erin says
The reason I read your fix it posts is mostly for Daniels comments. Love me
Miranda D. says
Tell Daniel I completely agree with him on the Mimi comment! But you need more, um, lively makeup to pull that off.
Amanda says
Daniel was spot on with the Mini comment. I like what you ended up keeping.
Kate says
Your husband is hilarious! Love it!
Rachel Cupps says
You had me at the Mimi comment!!!! Love that last tunic though!
Hope says
I thought you looked cute in all except for the blue dress thing. Jeans were awesome. I stitch it as well and do the same. Keep one or two.
