I’m convinced that farm life is heaven for small children. So many animals. So much going on. So much SPACE.
It’s been a full week, friends. Lots of moments of joy, lots of busyness, but also lots of grief. Our friend Jason passed away after being a passenger in a terrible car accident early Monday and the circumstances made it very tragic. Please, for the love, wear your seatbelt and don’t ever, ever, ever drink and drive or ride with someone who has been drinking. Please. So many broken hearts.
Jason was a character and there was nobody like him. He was the most brilliant artist I have ever known. You can see my favorite painting of his here: Christ healing the blind man. My prayer is that when he opened his eyes, he beheld Our Lord, just like the blind man in his painting. Please pray for his soul, for all the grieving family and friends, and for the driver who is still hospitalized and facing charges.
This week we did lots of reminiscing about Jason and all the crazy stories he starred in. We also started to fall into a rhythm at the farm and that has felt good. The house above is one of Waco’s gorgeous homes, just up the road from where we lived when Benjamin was born.
The goats are the kids’ favorite animals to visit since they actually LIKE people. (In other news, Daniel’s fellow intern was stung by 40 bees and merited a trip to urgent care. And one of the sows attacked the livestock team when they were working with some of the new piglets. She was not a happy mama. Thankfully, nobody was hurt!)
I resumed my favorite pastime of reading in the bathtub. It’s basically the best–just add epsom salts and lavender for extra relaxation.

I’m so sorry about your friend, Haley! Losing friends is so very hard. I’m glad that farm life is agreeing with your kids!

Thanks, Ginny! And yes, they are loving it. It’s a joy to watch them.

I’m so sorry to hear about your friend Jason. May perpetual light shine upon him.
I’m also glad to hear the farm intern is doing ok after so many stings. We had a tragic case up here in Michigan where a golfer was stung 20 times in the head and neck and died as a result. He wasn’t allergic — they just said it was too many stings for the body to handle. So sad. 🙁
Haley says
Thank you, Maryalene.
And yes! It was a lot of stings. He was all about toughing it out, but was convinced to go get a steroid shot at urgent care and I’m so glad because that many stings is scary!

Oh, Haley, I am so sorry about the loss of your friend, Jason. We’ve been experiencing a lot of loss here, too, and it’s been tough. Prayers for you, and hugs, and love.

Haley, I’m so sorry for your family’s loss. May his soul Rest in Peace. That painting of his is remarkable. I really appreciate images like his that so beautifully capture Our Lord.
