Well, here we are. We really did it. We set out on our insane ambitious road trip with three small children in tow a week ago and so far it’s been wonderful. In fact, it’s been so good that we haven’t even had to bust out the DVD player for the car.
We headed north to Atlanta, GA where we stayed at one of our best friend’s apartments. The kids did great on the drive even though we were stuck in ATL traffic for two hours. Our friend Beca fed us and I’m sure her cat is still recovering from how much my kids wanted to love on him. We also went to the Cathedral of Christ the King for Mass.
Gorgeous liturgy and our kids were dazzled by the beauty of the church. Kids are drawn to beauty. Beauty matters, folks. While our parish in Tallahassee is a wonderful, wonderful place. Aesthetically beautiful, it is not.
Next up was camping at Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Just imagine a six-year-old, a three-year-old, and a two-year-old sleeping in a tent in the woods for the first time ever and you’ll have an idea of how excited they were. Seriously, so fun.
We hiked around and climbed to the top of Clingman’s Dome where it was so windy and foggy that we couldn’t see a thing. But oh well. We still had fun.
Next up we drove to spend a few days at our family reunion at Beech Mountain, NC and we’ll leave tomorrow for the next leg of our trip.
We’ve been hiking around, skinning knees, and having a blast.
I’ve been trying to keep my Instagram updated with photos from the trip, so follow along if ya wanna!
Coming Up…

Who is that boy, the one who practically looks like a grown-up Daniel? When did he start looking so darned old? Wow! And your daughters—oh my goodness, your whole family is just plain stunning!

Hi! We are about to buy a trailer and travel around for a few months as well. We have a 1 year old and a 3 year old. I’m wondering if you could give any guidance or advice. Have you run into and problems? What things do you have in the car to keep the kids occupied? Do you read to them? Books on tape? I’d love to hear some guidance from you 🙂 mlg.yourfavbuddy@gmail.com

It was so great to be able to meet you at TOT, Haley! I hope the roadtrip is continuing to go well, and that you were able to wash plenty of clothes 😉
