This Week’s Miscellany: Vol. 118

Welcome to This Week’s Miscellany, the weekly feature at Carrots where I share photos, quotes, links, and whatever strikes my fancy!

It’s been a fantastic, busy, crazy couple of weeks. Hence the lack of TWM last Saturday. You’ll forgive you when I tell you that not only did my friend Colleen and I host about 30 lovely ladies at my house Saturday morning for our dear friend’s baby shower (she’s having twins! And one of her little lads is my godson!), but in the afternoon we had Benjamin’s 6th birthday party at the park next to my parent’s house. Whew! The Tolkien-themed birthday deserves it’s own post so more on that later.

This weekend we’re painting and sprucing up our little house before putting it on the market. Exciting! Bittersweet! Ah! And no we’re not buying a bigger house. It’s actually more exciting than that, but I’m just going to leave it shrouded in mystery for now. I’m so mean! Ok, moving on…

Bookshelf Love

I am hopeless. I created my 2015 Reading Goals for February with TWO BOOKS to read for the month. Now it’s getting out of control because I keep adding and adding. But some of them are audiobooks and I had to start In This House of Brede because Christy recommended it and I loved the last book she recommended so much.

And because coffee goes perfectly with books…Daniel and I got to try out Bean Box which is a subscription box company that delivers freshly roasted Seattle coffee. It arrived in the mail yesterday and Benjamin ran inside yelling, “We got a BEAN BOX!!! In the mail! Can you believe it?! What IS a Bean Box?” He may have been slightly bummed that it was coffee and not something for him to eat.

We decided to do a taste test this morning of two of the four coffees in the box and my Hillman City Global Blend was the clear winner over his Nicaragua Perla Negra but I’ll try not to rub it in. Also, did you know that you’re supposed to wait four minutes after the water boils to pour the coffee? I did not. Or maybe I did, but an extra four minutes is typically four minutes too long to wait for coffee. We waited the crucial four minutes this morning as per the Bean Box instructions and it was extra good so…..patience and all that. All around thumbs up for coffee delight!

Tangent: That mug is a recently discovered in a box at Daniel’s parents house mug from Daniel’s past–a gift from a middle school friends that says “You’re like a mother to me.” I die every time I see it. Who has friends in middle school with absurdist humor? Bearman, apparently.
