Happy weekend, y’all! Here’s your weekly wrap-up of Stewart happenings, photos, quotes, and my favorite links from around there web.
But first things first! The winner of the Toadily Handmade Beeswax Candle giveaway was…….Barbara N!
And, because y’all were so excited about their candles, Toadily Handmade decided to offer ANOTHER Advent candle kit. And that one goes to….Chrissy Covington! Congrats, y’all! Check your email, ladies 🙂
Last weekend I didn’t get around to posting a TWM because we drove to the Alabama mountains so Daniel could pace a friend during his ultra-marathon. Daniel ran the same 100 mile race last year (yes…you read that right ONE HUNDRED MILES) and this friend ran with him for the last 35 miles to keep him moving. Really cool that he got to do the same for his friend this year.
We hiked around on Mt. Cheaha (highest point in AL) and got to see REAL FALL LEAVES. We just don’t get those in Florida. Or in central Texas. The only places I’ve ever lived in the fall. It was like an autumnal wonderland.
Then we spent a day in Birmingham. We ran around the zoo for almost four hours (really great zoo!) and then hit up Steel City Pops for popsicles.
Oh my heavens. They had MAPLE BACON popsicles. Which is obviously what I got and obviously delicious.
Then we gobbled up BBQ at Saw’s in Homewood. Omigoodnes. The best. We let the kids run their wiggles out at a city park and then the girls feel asleep on the way to the Vigil Mass at St. Paul’s Cathedral. It was a stunning church and the liturgy was beautiful (All Souls). Gwen MAY have pooped halfway through Mass (hey, thanks for changing that, Daniel), and Benjamin MAY have dropped his missal making a loud bang, and Lucy MAY have worn crocs because I forget her other shoes, and we MAY have skeedaddled right after Communion so that Daniel could make it to the race on time…so…perhaps not our finest hour? But you were great, St. Paul’s, you were great. I have to say that after taking three kids out of town twice in one month, I’m ready to just chill at our house forEVAH.
The Quotable Gwen:
Gwen: “Kno-Knock”
Me: “Um…..who’s there?”
Gwen: ” Uncle.”
Me: “Uncle Who?”
Gwen: “Darrett” (Garrett’s my brother)
Me: “Did our 17mo really just tell a knock knock joke?”
Daniel: “Well, it wasn’t very good.”
The Quotable Benjamin:
Benjamin at the dinner table: *sigh* “I just feel like I really need to go outside and look at the stars.”
Either the stars are really alluring or my cooking was really underwhelming.
Liturgical Living:
Advent is a’comin’! We’ve been having a lot of fun at our house getting ready to wrap-up our new little ebook of liturgical recipes. Check out how pretty these sushi rolls turned out to celebrate St. Paul Miki!
I’m really excited to share all the new recipes with y’all!

Can’t believe you were in Birmingham! St. Paul’s is our church and we are so blessed. Steel City Pops has a bourbon and bacon flavor that is fantastic. I really enjoy your blog – especially the book and show recommendations. I’m feeling slightly panicky wondering what I’m going to do when I get to the end of Lark Rise to Candleford…

Yes! That’s the one, Monica! Maple Bourbon Bacon. OH MY. And thanks for your sweet words. I’m halfway through the last season wondering how I will go on when it’s over! And WILL Fisher Bloom make another entrance! Because…..sigh.

Life without fall leaves? I just couldn’t. Fall leaves feel like the crescendo of the year’s vibrance before the earth rests for winter and gets ready to explode with life in the spring and summer…
Am I being dramatic?
I just have to have my fall leaves!
Haley says
Well we have a FEW trees that turn yellow or orange, but in general, it’s pretty green here all year round 😉

Today it was pin-drop quiet just after everyone had received the Eucharist. At that moment, my 4 year old’s voice rang out: “Mom, is it time to go yet?”
Oops.

Living in CA, I’ve got the breathtaking ocean but not the gorgeous fall colors in your photo! Earlier this week I was at Trader Joe’s and there are three trees on the side of the building with flaming red and golden leaves. I sat there in the parking lot just enjoying the beauty. I can’t imagine living in a whole city with such colors. 🙂 Fall is the only time I wish CA had 4 seasons!

WHAT?!?!? I can’t believe you were here in my town!! That is so awesome!! Man, it would have be awesome to meet you and your family in person. Glad y’all loved the zoo – it’s definitely one of our favs (we are there every week just about!). And, yes! Steel City Pops…yummmmmm.
Glad y’all had a great time here. Next time head over to our church, Our Lady of Sorrows in Homewood 🙂 There is another Steel City Pops just around the corner, too!
