Y’all, thank you SO MUCH for filling out the reader survey I posted on the Carrots five year anniversary post. I was honestly floored by how many of you took the time to help give me feedback and I really appreciate it. I love this little spot of the internet and I want it to serve my readers well. Thanks for such helpful feedback and for being the best readers ever!
I said I would give away a copy of our ebook, but y’all were so wonderful that I decided to give away 10 copies because…you deserve it. I sent emails to the winners so if you are one of the following lovely ladies, check your inbox!

I’m gonna break up the results of the survey into two posts because ain’t nobody got time for super long posts, amirite?! Today the basics, and next time the big lessons I learned. Here’s a few things that jumped out at me right away:
- My average reader is a lot like me. 99% of my readers are women. Either that or men don’t fill out surveys on blogs. Daniel said, “700 people filled out the survey?! That’s crazy. I would never fill one out.” So maybe he’s not alone. Anyhow. Most Carrots readers are religious, married, mothers, and around my age.
- But lots of my readers are very different from me, which I love.
- You love that Carrots covers a variety of topics and you like almost all of them.
- But most of you have at least one or two topics that you’d rather skip over.
- You don’t agree on which topics those are. (For example, some of you said, “This Week’s Miscellany bores me to tears” and others said, “Can you please do more posts like TWM? They’re my favorite.” More on all that in the next post.
Ok, so here’s some graphics! Everybody loves graphics! I’m gonna start with some of the basics:
How old are you?
Relationship status is…
How many kid live at your house?
Are you a blogger?
What’s your religious affiliation?
Where do you spend most of your social media time?
What do you think about Natural Family Planning?
Carrots Stuff:
- A big thanks to my fellow bloggers because half of you discovered Carrots when it was linked to by another blog. I appreciate it! And thanks for sharing posts on FB because that’s how most of the rest of you found Carrots–through a friend’s FB link.
- Most of you come to the actual site to read each post. But a good portion of Carrots readers use Feedly, Bloglovin, or subscribe by email.
Ok, folks. Now the conundrums.
My favorite posts at Carrots are about….(choose 4)
Ok, so it’s pretty clear that Motherhood, Faith, Liturgical Year, Books, Marriage/NFP and TWM are all strong favorites. It’s clear that Blogging is NOT a favorite. Point taken, y’all. I don’t write about blogging very often but when I do….I just won’t write about blogging very often.
My LEAST favorite posts at Carrots are about….(choose 4)

Daniel’s comment is so funny to me! My husband was actually the one who saw your survey first and then told me I should fill it out. 🙂 I’m looking forward to reading which other blogs are the most popular with your readers; that will be interesting!
You’re doing a great job, Haley!
Chris M says
Your husband must be a pretty good guy. Nice of him to suggest helping Haley out.
Haley says
Thanks, Kate! I’m excited to share some of the awesome blogs y’all told me about. So many good ones and now my feedly is overflowing 🙂
Lisa says
Ah!! I definitely said your homeschooling and urban homesteading posts were my favorites! Bummer that I’m in the minority!
Haley says
They’ll still show up here and there, Lisa! 🙂

I think it’s interesting that so many of us are bloggers, but most people don’t want to read about blogging. Huh.
And yay, other Protestants reading Carrots! I thought I was the only one! =)
Haley says
That is funny, isn’t it?
Lauren @ Faith and Macaroni says
Fellow [Lutheran] Protestant in the house! LOVE the insane number of Catholic blogs I read. 🙂
Susana says
I was really curious about the results of your survey. I am glad you shared it! As one of the minority (atheist, love the urban homesteading and homeschooling posts ) I no longer feel like I am the only one here. I may be the minority, but at least I don’t stand alone =D Let me tell you that I really like your blog. Although we don’t have the same belief system, I see in you and your family, loving and caring persons, who live a life full of joy. An that is precious.
Haley says
That is so kind, Susana. Thank you! So glad you’re here.
Victoria says
Wow, it is so fun to read these stats, and well done on your 700 responses.
Haley says
I was hoping I wouldn’t bore y’all with the numbers, haha. But I thought it was really interesting, too!

I have to say that I was torn on the Fashion question because I’m….ummmm…very unfashionable, and I usually just skim other blogs giving clothing or makeup tips. But your Stitch Fix posts are some of my favorites because they’re so personal and Daniel’s comments remind me of my husband’s, so funny! It’s like going out with a girlfriend who needs a new dress but where I don’t have to try on any jeans.
Haley says
Aw, yay! That is exactly what I want them to feel like! A blogging friend told me, “I feel like we just went shopping together!” and I was so glad 🙂
Leah Heffner says
If that many of your readers are bloggers you could do a lot with that….like take a vacation lol or at the very least have killer link ups… Ha
Haley says
For some reason, I’m never drawn to link-ups. I don’t know why! But I do them every once in awhile….like….annually, haha.

“All the single ladies, all the single ladies…”
Blog party!!! I’m in! We can chit-chat about blogging (since for some reason those aren’t popular posts??) and the blogs we love. The commute from SoCal to Florida is long but maybe we can set up a carpool? Looking forward to part 2 for sure 🙂
Haley says
Sounds amazing 😉
Mandi says
I’m guessing that bloggers are overrepresented in the survey because they’re probably more likely to “help a fellow blogger out” than non-bloggers. I think they tend to comment more on posts for the same reason – they understand how much those comments mean to the author.
Haley says
I hadn’t thought of that, Mandi! That has to be it. 25% is a LOT, haha.
April says
Wow 4 other Mormons read your blog regularly! I thought I was the only one.
Haley says
Represent, April! 😉 I’m glad you’re here. <3

More Urban Homesteading!
I apologize for not doing the survey despite loving your blog. For what it’s worth, I started to fill it out! But then, babies, or toddlers, or maybe just something shiny distracted me and I never went back to it.
Speaking of distractability and my “So, you know what I was thinking – SQUIRREL!- umm, what were we talking about again?” tendencies I did want to mention your blog is A LOT to handle. We’ve got a column of information and thumbnails on each side, a book advertisement on the top, tons of awesome pictures down the middle, and now a Holy Heroes bar at the bottom!
I feel like I read 1/3rd of five things before I finish one post in it’s entirety. It’s an adventure 😀
