(Prepare yourself for some poor quality iphone pics with bad lighting. Lucky you!)
Waking up in the middle of the night Christmas Eve with a head cold that gets progressively worse all Christmas Day and becomes a throat infection until you’re shivering, achy, and feverish, on the couch with a hot cup of tea might not be the ideal way to celebrate…..
However….
The good thing about being sick on Christmas might give you the perfect excuse to curl up with Cari Donaldson’s new book, Pope Awesome and finish it in one day because it is SO GOOD and makes you cry more times than you’d like to admit. It’s witty and funny and there’s a few passages that are just achingly beautiful. Cari is a splendid writer and a wonderful storyteller. If you’re a convert, a parent, or a human, you need to get your hands on this book. I couldn’t put it down.
The good thing about being sick on Christmas is that your fever might excuse you from helping with Christmas dinner and prove that your husband is the most awesome, handsome, capable guy ever who excels at juggling a fussy don’t-you-dare-put-me-down baby, supervising two young children, and cooking the best turkey you’ve ever had with whiskey-glazed carrots, gravy, and mashed potatoes with ricotta while you sit in front of a space heater moaning, “my skin hurts!”
The good thing about being sick on Christmas is that you only feel up to sitting on the couch with a blanket and snuggling a baby on her first Christmas….it’s really not so bad.
The good thing about being sick on Christmas is that you can just sit at home charging your phone on your new Jane Austen iPhone charger (!!!!!!)
(Christmas morning with sweet cousin Vivienne)
The good thing about being sick on Christmas is that despite feeling crummy, spending Christmas with these precious people that I can never hope to deserve made it wonderful.
The good thing about being sick during Christmas is remembering that Christmastide lasts 12 days not just one, so there’s a week of merry-making once I’m feeling myself again.
Merry Christmas, to all of you! I know I’m a few days late, but it’s still only the fourth day of Christmas. I hope to be on the mend soon with some fun end of the year posts (and I promise you better quality photography when I’m well again and not taking all photos on my phone from my perch on the couch.) I’m going to set up a What I Read in 2013 link-up and a Reading Goals for 2014 link-up so start putting your lists together!

Oh no! Being sick on Christmas is the pits! My little one (5 months old) and I spent part of December down with RSV, but the good part was we could snuggle in front of the fire watching classic Christmas movies. Hope you’re on the mend!
Haley says
Thanks, Bethe! I have done my fair share of Christmas movie watching the past few days ; )

Hope you’re feeling better soon! On Christmas Day, i was feeling a bit under the weather too, and then my sweet 11 mo woke up from her second nap with a fever. My normally boisterous, non-snuggly, intense personality-ed baby was aaaaallllllllll cuddles and snuggles and nursing all day. Best First Christmas. Ever!
Haley says
Thanks, Rachel! I went to the Dr. yesterday to confirm the throat infection. And since the fever just started a few days ago but the sore throat has been on and off for weeks, I caved and agreed to take antibiotics. Hate doing that but, what can you do? I’ve natural remedied as much as I can. Feeling better already! How’s your sweet little one feeling?
Christie @ Everything to Someone says
Wow, everyone’s been sick this Christmas! What is going on?
Haley says
Doesn’t it seem like that? Ugh. Now poor Daniel is sick.
Lexi says
Are those gauges in your ears? They look awesome [:
Haley says
Thank you! They are. I sized up this summer and I think it’s as big as I’m going to go (00g).
Lexi says
I only have baby gauges in now and I that’s probably when I plan to stop too!

This is so sweet, Haley. Making lemonade from sour lemons. Or, perhaps eggnog would be more apropos? Either way, I’m glad you were able to (sort of) enjoy it, and that you’re feeling better.
